LGBTQ children couldn’t be their true selves in the years prior. Many people nowadays still find it difficult to do so, especially if they lack the love and support of their family or closest friends. Because of this, it’s wonderful to see these famous parents supporting their LGBTQ children wholeheartedly. With such wonderful examples, we can only hope that more parents will follow their lead and accept their kids for the wonderful people they are.
Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union, and Zaya
First up are actress Gabrielle Union and former athlete Dwayne Wade. In total, Dwayne Wade has four children from different relationships, including his trans daughter, Zaya.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the retired basketball player said, “We are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re proud allies as well.” The celebrity continued by explaining his child’s pronoun preferences and transition – we love to see it!
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Shiloh
Shiloh Pitt stands out on this list since it’s unclear whether or not she belongs to the LGBTQ community. Even so, she is already regarded as an LGBTQ icon.
The child of Hollywood celebrities Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has never followed traditional gender stereotypes. Jolie has said, “She wants to be a boy” Shiloh has frequently been spotted with short hair and “male” attire, and the actors once referred to Shiloh as “John.”
Alec Baldwin and Ireland
Ireland and actor Alec Baldwin haven’t always had the best of relationships. At one point, TLC received a recording of the celebrity yelling at his daughter. But the two have been able to mend fences since then.
Baldwin shared a lesson he had learned from his daughter on a podcast, “You don’t sleep with a man or a woman. You sleep with the person. I’m attracted to that person.” He seemed to be quite encouraging to us!
Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson
Anderson Cooper’s mother, the American artist and socialite Gloria Vanderbilt passed away in 2019, however, she was always supportive of him. In high school, the journalist came out to his pals; in his early 20s, he told his mother. He publicly affirmed his orientation in 2012.
Vanderbilt said to her son during a joint interview, “It took great courage for you to confide in me […] I rejoice that you are gay! It’s part of what makes you the person you are.”
Heather, Terry Dubrow, and Max
On Botched and The Real Housewives of Orange County, viewers of reality television have kept up with the Dubrow family. Maximillia, Katarina, Collette, and Nicholas are the four children that plastic surgeon Terry and actress Heather have together.
On the final day of Pride Month in 2020, Max tweeted a photo with the comment, “I always knew I was bi.” The former Real Housewife reposted the picture writing, “I love you my beautiful, hilarious, amazing child! I am SO proud to be your mother.”
Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp, and Lily-Rose
Vanessa Paradis, a French singer and model, dated American actor Johnny Depp from 1998 to 2012. They have one son, John Christopher “Jack,” and one daughter, Lily-Rose.
Lily-Rose Depp enjoys the support of both of her parents and describes herself as being “somewhere on the vast spectrum,” As Johnny Depp explained to Ellen DeGeneres “I already knew because she tells me everything. She’s not afraid to say anything to me. We’re super tight and I’m very proud of our relationship.”
Marcia Gay Harden and Hudson
Who among us does not adore Marcia Gay Harden? Every time, something about the American actress’s sneer makes us quake in our boots. Eulala Grace, Julitta Dee, and Hudson Harden are the three children the actress shares with prop master Thaddaeus Scheel from a previous marriage.
Hudson, the son of Harden, is gay and a makeup artist. The celebrity has argued in favor of LGBTQ equality, saying: “My son is gay. I just want to make sure he gets to have a family when he wants one.”
Cher and Chaz
Chaz Bono made appearances on episodes of The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour as a youngster. The author and musician have had to publicly deal with his gender identity as an adult. First of all, Chaz was revealed to be a lesbian by tabloids in the 1990s.
Then, in a two-part TV special, they underwent their gender transformation. Gay superstar Cher remarked on Chaz’s transition as follows: “The loss I thought I was going to feel, I don’t feel one iota.”
Sally Field and Sam
The delightful Sally Field and her homosexual son, writer-producer Sam Greisman, are the next pair to appear. Actress Field attempted to hook up her kid with his Winter Olympics crush, figure skater Adam Rippon in 2018, at one point because she was so desperate to see her son happy.
Greisman talked about how his mother reacted when he came out, “She didn’t bat an eye. In fact, she was overjoyed. Being gay was just one more thing she loved about me.”
Magic Johnson, Cookie, and E.J.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr., a former professional basketball player, is regarded as the greatest point guard of all time. The athlete is a father of three kids in all; his son Earvin III, also known as EJ, is gay and was born to Earlitha “Cookie” Kelly.
Always encouraging of their son, Magic and Cookie have said that parents should love their kids “no matter who they are.” Magic Johnson has expressed the following in regard to his son’s coming out: “ I was so happy for him and happy for us as parents.”
Gloria Estefan and Emily
The legendary Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan, who has two kids with her longtime spouse Emilio Estefan, is the next performer. Emily Estefan, the couple’s daughter, is openly lesbian and came out in 2017.
Gloria and Emily sat down together for a 2020 episode of Red Table Talk to normalize and shed light on Emily’s identity. The two engaged in an intense discussion regarding Emily’s coming out process. This, in our opinion, is a fantastic method to demystify LGBTQ identities.
Khary Payton and Karter
Actor Khary Payton of The Walking Dead announced on social media in 2020 that his son is trans. From Payton’s post, “This my kid. One of the most happy, well-adjusted individuals I’ve ever known. My son, Karter. Karter with a K because it reminded him of my name.”
He went on, “You see, he was born female but has always identified as a boy. He thought it would be cool if I announced it on social media.” We agree, Karter!
Marie Osmond and Jessica
Unfortunately, a lot of parents of LGBTQ children don’t accept their identities or experiences. Marie Osmond, however, is not one of those parents. Osmond explained to Diane Sawyer about her lesbian daughter, Jessica, “I think my daughter deserves everything she desires in life.”
Marie Osmond adopted Jessica in the late 1980s and currently has eight children overall. Although some believed the celebrity would adopt a more conservative stance, she clarified, “The God that I believe in is a god of love, not fear.”
Barbra Streisand, Elliot Gould, and Jason
Barbra Streisand spent almost ten years with actor Eliot Gould before getting hitched to actor James Brolin. She had a kid named Jason with Gould, who was outed in the 1990s by the tabloids. The actor and singer opened up about his orientation in 2001, claiming that he had known he was gay since he was a young child.
Always a loving mother and LGBT icon, Barbra has remarked, “I would never wish for my son to be anything but what he is.”
Cynthia Bailey, Leon Robinson, and Noelle
In 1999, actress and singer Leon Robinson and Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey gave birth to their daughter Noelle. Since then, fans have seen the couple bring Noelle up to be a full-fledged adult. Noelle came out as fluid in 2019 and said, “I just like who I like, and that’s just what it is.”
Cynthia, a former model, replied, “I just want you to be happy, Noelle.” Speaking about any future partners, Bailey stated, “As long as they’re good people and they love and support you.”
Marlon Wayans and Amai
Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans, a member of the Wayans family, has two kids with his wife Angelica Zackary. The celebrity shared a photo of her daughter Amai wearing sneakers with rainbow soles back in 2019. The caption read, “Happy birthday to my pride and joy. I wouldn’t change one effing thing about you. Love you to the moon around the sun through the galaxies and back again.”
Marlon Wayans continued by mentioning the Katy Perry song “I Kissed a Girl” and revealing that his daughter had come out to him.
Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, and Stephen
After 25 years, actor Warren Beatty granted Vanity Fair his first in-depth interview in 2016. Speaking of Stephen Ira, his trans son, Beatty remarked, “He’s a revolutionary, a genius, and my hero.” How adorable!
Since their union in 1992, Warren Beatty and actress Annette Bening have been parents to four kids. Bening has stated in relation to her transgender activist son, “I’m super proud of him […] I leave it to him to say what he wants about his life.”
Busy Philipps and Birdie
Since their union in 1992, Warren Beatty and actress Annette Bening have been parents to four kids. Speaking about her transgender activist son, Busy Philipps explored her child’s gender identity on her podcast, Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best. Birdie, Phillip’s LGBT child, prefers they/them pronouns over he or she. We admire Philipps’ advice when she told her daughter, “You get to build your life however the f-k you want to!” We like that advice!
Birdie told her parents when she was ten years old, according to the actor and podcaster, “I mean obviously, I knew that Birdie knew.”
Belinda Carlisle and James
Throughout her lengthy career, 1980s icon Belinda Carlisle has inspired many people to dance. With her husband, film producer Morgan Mason, the “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” singer has a kid named James Duke Mason. When James came out to Carlisle when he was 14, she initially experienced some parental trepidation.
As Belinda Carlisle said, “The first thing I thought of is what kind of world is he going to have to struggle with. It’s a lot harder for LGBTQ people than it is for straight people, just generally.”
Charlize Theron and Jackson
The South African actress, who adopted daughter August in July 2015 and son Jackson in March 2012, is a huge supporter of Jackson and has said, “One day, if she chooses, she’ll tell her story.” Theron reported that Jackson, age 7, is trans in 2019.
Theron remarked when talking about her children, “They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide.”
Mia Farrow and Ronan
Although Ronan Farrow has been alienated from his father for his entire adult life, he is the son of actress Mia Farrow and filmmaker Woody Allen. After years of tabloid speculation regarding his orientation, Ronan came out as gay in 2018.
Ronan Farrow has exposed injustices in Hollywood circles during his journalism career. He highlighted the actions of prominent producer Harvey Weinstein in particular. Farrow is very close to his loving mother Mia.
Cynthia Nixon and Samuel
Cynthia Nixon, an activist, and actress, shared a photo of her and Samuel, her trans son, on social media in 2018. (also called Seph). Nixon stated, Along with the graduation photo, “I salute him and everyone else marking today’s #TransDayofAction. #TDOA.”
After announcing Samuel’s transition online, the actress anticipated further backlash from the general public. She recalls, “I was kind of shocked at what a non-event it was, which is just how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time.” Hooray!
Cybill Shepherd and Clementine
Throughout her long career, actress Cybill Shepherd has appeared on both large and small screens. In all, the celebrity has three kids, including actress Clementine Ford. Ford first acknowledged as gay in 2009, but she later claimed to identify as “a queer woman.”
Since Cybil Shepherd has long advocated for LGBTQ rights and marriage equality, it is not surprising that she is supportive of her daughter. In fact, Ariel Shepherd-Oppenheim, Shepherd’s second daughter, came out as a lesbian in 2010.
Trudie Styler, Sting, and Eliot
Brigitte Michael, Jake, Eliot Paulina, and Giacomo Luke are the four children that actor Trudie Styler and musician Sting had together. Eliot performs music and goes by the name Coco. Coco first publicly discussed their orientation in 2015, stating that they do not prefer to identify with a certain gender.
On a chat show, Trudie Styler was questioned about Coco’s orientation and replied, “She identifies as a musician, and the conversation should end there.” Coco uses they/them pronouns and doesn’t use gender labels.
Tammy Rivera, Waka Flocka Flame, and Charlie
Rapper Waka Flocka Flame wed television personality Tammy Rivera in 2014, making him Charlie’s stepfather. The rapper understood there’s no point in objecting to something you’ve never experienced when Charlie made the decision to bring a girl as her date to a school dance.
Regarding his stepdaughter’s sexual orientation, the celebrity said, “If I approached it like a strong-minded male, it [would] run her away. So I followed my wife’s footsteps.” We love to see it!
Sade and Izaak
One of the best-known British female musicians of all time is Sade, a singer who was born in Nigeria. Before moving to the Caribbean to live with music producer Bob Morgan, the singer was married to Spanish director Carlos Pliego. In the course of that connection, Sade welcomed Mickailia Ila Adu.
Time travel to National Coming Out Day in 2016, when Mickailia Ila Adu revealed his identity as Izaak Theo Adu, a trans guy. Izaak shared a photo of him and his mother with the comment, “Queen of queens.”
Ally Sheedy and Beckett
Ally Sheedy, an actress who was a founding member of the Brat Pack, has been a familiar face on our screens for a while. In 1992, the celebrity wed David Lansbury, an actor, and Angela Lansbury’s nephew.
Despite the fact that their marriage did not last, Sheedy and Lansbury do have a kid together. 1994 saw the birth of Beckett, who subsequently came out as a trans guy. Ally Sheedy was initially full of love and support because she was reared by two lesbian mothers.
Billy Ray, Tish Cyrus, and Miley
Miley Cyrus, an actress and singer, is another person who has been in the spotlight since they were little. Hannah Montana was the star’s most well-known role, although she has subsequently expanded her career and found many more creative outlets.
According to Miley Cyrus, who defines as pansexual, “I don’t ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl.” Billy Ray Cyrus remarked about his daughter’s orientation, “Listen, it’s all about love and light. Forget the negativity and the haters.”
Sia and Son
Sia, an Australian artist, declared she is queer, adding, “I’ve always dated boys and girls and anything in between. I don’t care what gender you are, it’s about people.”The musician’s adoption of two teenage boys who were aging out of the foster care system was made public in 2020.
One of Sia’s sons, who was 19 at the time, came out as gay, the singer subsequently disclosed. She said, “He’s just blossoming and is the light of my life… I love him so much.”
Anne Rice and Christopher
Author of Interview With a Vampire and one of the best-selling novelists of all time, Anne Rice was married to poet and artist Stan Rice for more than 40 years. The couple had a son named Christopher and a daughter named Michele who tragically died as a kid.
In 2010, Anne Rice finally decided to renounce her Christian faith due to the Catholic church’s hostility to same-gender unions. She stated: “I will no longer tolerate hate speech in the guise of Christian belief with the usual irresponsible pick and choose bible quotes.”
Sharon Osbourne and Kelly Osbourne
Sharon Osbourne, a television personality and the spouse of the singer Ozzy Osbourne, doesn’t mind being in the spotlight. She said, “I always think everybody is gay so am I,” when asked on her former talk show The Talk about her daughter Kelly’s acceptance of sexuality.
She continued by adding “I am not a little bit gay, I am extremely interested in the fact of what I missed out on. But it is too late now.”
Waka Flocka, Tammy Rivera and Charlie Rivera
Rapper and actor Waka Flocka Flame, real name Juaquin James Malphurs, and his wife Tammy Rivera have a daughter. When questioned about his daughter Charlie on The Mix, he pondered on his answer when she asked to bring a girl to her latest school dance.
Waka was open and confessed “If I approached it like a strong-minded male, it [would] run her away. So I followed my wife’s footsteps.” What a cool dad!
Braunwyn Windham-Burke, Sean Burke and Jacob Burke
The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Braunwyn and Sean are reality television stars who are also the parents of seven kids. The future of this couple’s 20-year marriage appeared to be in serious doubt when Braunwyn came out as a lesbian during the most recent season.
Jacob, their son, revealed at this point how much he adores drag performances. The first to offer their assistance were his parents. Braunwyn even posted on Instagram, saying “We are so blessed to have such an amazing child…”
Drea Kelly and Jaah
infamous R&B performer R. All three of Kelly’s children were born to his ex-backup dancer, Drea Kelly. Jaah, one of their children, first came out as trans in an Instagram post when she was 13 years old before coming out as genderqueer.
After Jaah was born, his mother stated in an interview: “Parents get it wrong when they don’t support their children. They have to go out and fight every day and face this world. The first battle should not be at home.” Preach, Drea!
Vanna White and Nikko
His mother revealed that Wheel of Fortune host Vanna White had been married to restaurant owner George Santo Pietro between 1990 and 2002 shortly after Jaah came out. Nikko Santo Pietro, one of their two children, has been in a same-gender relationship since 2013. They would rather not identify their orientation, though.
Nikko has stated the following about his attitude on life: “We’re all the same, no matter your skin color, size, orientation, or gender identity. We’re all human, and we should treat each other as such.”
Isiah Thomas and Zeke
Isiah Thomas, a former professional basketball player, is one of the top 50 players in NBA history. In addition, he is a wonderful father to his gay son Zeke. The father and kid really shared a photo for the NOH8 campaign to show their support for equality for all people.
Zeke Thomas disclosed that he came out in 2008 and that both of his parents claimed to be aware of it at the time. He stated: “They were very accepting. I always knew they would be accepting.”
Dean McDermott and Jack
Actress Mary Jo Eustace and actress Tori Spelling were Dean McDermott’s first and second marriages, respectively. He is a reality TV personality. McDermott has a gay son named Jack that he had with Eustace.
McDermott said in a Daddy Issues podcast interview: “My son Jack is gay… he’s this beautiful, 6’4″, beautiful Adonis… He’s just a gorgeous kid.” He cleared the air with Jack’s mother, Mary Jo Eustace, in another episode. Despite having a highly turbulent love life, Dean McDermott seems to be a really loving father.
Cindy Barshop and Jesse
Cindy Barshop, a former Real Housewives of New York star, marks the conclusion of our list of devoted celebrity parents. The reality star and her precious newborn twins made an appearance on the show during its fourth season.
We missed the fact that one of her twins came out as trans when she was six years old, a few years later. Jesse Barshop, the son of Cindy Barshop, urged his mother to speak out when TV personality Mario Lopez made some insensitive remarks concerning transgender children. According to Barshop, “nothing’s really changed.”
