From peeing in the shower for convenience to smelling your own armpits to check for odor, we’ve compiled a list of gross habits that women still do on a daily basis. While some of these customs seem crazy, most also happen to be totally normal. Before you get too grossed out, please read below — you’re in for a comedic treat! Plus, chances are you’ll find a few familiar habits. Don’t worry, we’re not judging (too much).
Greasy Girl
This first confession isn’t even gross, just greasy. Then again, greasy can tip over into being gross very easily. Though, when life gets crazy busy, often our personal maintenance takes a backseat.
Yes, good hygiene is a priority but so is work, assignments, child care, groceries… you get the point. So ladies, if you can’t remember the last time you washed your hair — put it up in a top know bun and give yourself a break!
Hamper Couture
It’s very common to have your top-pick clothing items. Though, as a result, you only end up wearing 1/3 of your closet. That’s all fine and dandy but what happens when those priority pieces pile up in the laundry hamper?
No problem — simply remove them from that pile and continue to wear them with pride until they start to reek. Then you’re left with two choices. Either bid your clothes a temporary farewell while they get washed or do the old perfume trick.
The Perfect Cover-Up
Sometimes, life gets in the way and certain healthy habits fall away. For example, when you’re swamped with your job and working crazy hours, your social life and workout regime become compromised.
With that, your self-care rituals start to diminish — and the next thing you know — you’re looking and smelling like a hot mess. Luckily quick fixes like dry shampoo, perfume, and deodorant can help prolong your much-needed shower.
Feeling it Out
When we think about all the weird places we put our fingernails, it actually makes us want to wash our hands. From picking our noses to scratching our teeth, our poor nails are constantly put in the line of fire.
Then again, what else are we going to use to do all our inspecting? Perhaps we should wear surgical gloves all day and that way we can keep our fingernails clean and hygienic. Plus, now that masks are the norm the gloves make more sense.
Yay for Laundry
Why is it that we wait until we no longer have clean clothes to finally do the laundry? Is it because we’re lazy? Too busy? Just silly? To be fair, it’s probably a combination of all three. We understand that people have to prioritize other daily commitments but we draw the line at underwear.
You need clean panties and socks to start the day right. Clothing is a different ballgame. You can always wear sweats if it’s laundry day but there’s no substitute to your underwear.
Just Playing
Oftentimes we’ll have a zit, scab, or cold sore on our face and instead of leaving it alone and applying the right ointments, we do the opposite. We pick, poke and prod the area of concern until we’ve made the problem worse.
No, it isn’t logical and yes, we shouldn’t do it but let’s be real, we’re never going to stop. We all get some kind of weird satisfaction out of it but then somehow get surprisingly upset when we look in the mirror to see what we’ve done.
What You Don’t See
We’ve already mentioned that you can get away with more when it comes to your underwear. When it comes to everyday bras, women generally look for the softest and most supportive/comfortable design.
So, when you find that needle in a haystack, you never let it go. In other words, a good bra is hard to come by and we understand not wanting to take it off. However, come the end of the week, try to make a point of washing your trusty brassiere.
A Hot Mess
We often find that we start doing this bad habit when we’re stressed about something. While a stress ball would be a better solution, sadly we all usually just resort to nail-biting or picking. And it’s all fun and games until your hands are left looking like this.
Believe it or not, the power lies with you… Try your very best to practice self-discipline and not destroy your pretty little nails. Better alternatives include freewriting, long walks in nature, or getting creative with arts and crafts.
A-Hole-in-One
When you love and adore an item of clothing, a few holes aren’t going to stop you from wearing it. Of course, if the garment is so old that it’s falling apart then maybe it’s time for a trip to the shops. However, until then you should hold onto your favorite undies.
Why not? If they give you joy and you like wearing them, it’s not harming anyone! We know we’re sounding like preaches in favor of the old panties but that’s fine. In fact, it’s totally true!
Party Girl
There are two reasons for we forget to take off our makeup. Either we partied too hard and passed out before cleaning our face and teeth, or we were just too tired. Though both are bad excuses.
Not taking your makeup off always ends in zits. It’s inevitable! Instead of putting yourself through a few days of bad skin, always keep wet wipes next to you and try to get yourself to do a quick cleanse in the bathroom.
Let it Go
Truthfully, we don’t see anything wrong with this next one though we know that many people will disagree. We don’t mind being controversial — it’s the 21st century and it’s cool to stand with the less popular voters.
Also, if you’re enjoying a nice long shower and all of a sudden need to make a number one, it makes more sense to just stay in your warm surrounding and as they say in Frozen, “Let it go.”
Don’t Sit Down
Public toilets can be a health hazard so when it comes to using the bathroom, ladies have two options. Either you pad the seat with tons of toilet paper before sitting down, or you can hold your best squatting position. We stand by the latter decision. Get it?
Not only does squatting provide a mini workout for your legs and booty, but it’s also the safer option as you don’t ever touch the toilet. Good personal hygiene is so important, especially in these times.
Bad Breath Police
Often we can just expect to have bad breath. For example, first thing in the morning after waking up, or right after enjoying a smelly meal. Tuna or egg sandwiches are the most common reasons for bad breath. So, what do we do in these situations?
Obviously brushing our teeth or using mouthwash will fix the problem efficiently but for some unbeknown reason to us, that’s not the first thing we do. People get a weird satisfaction from smelling their own breath to confirm it reeks before taking any action.
Getting Inventive
We love having a full head of hair but with our manes comes a lot of maintenance — not only to keep our hair clean and healthy but also to the objects and places affected by it. For example, cleaning the shower or bath drain after our hair has gone everywhere.
Another necessary habit to get into involves cleaning out your hairbrush. There are many ways to accomplish this, such as soaking the brush in hot water or using an old bobby pin to manually take out all the hairpieces.
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
This next gross habit corresponds with the previous one. If we choose to avoid the gross procedure of cleaning up our shedding hair, then we are left in a compromised position. Instead, the problem just mounts up and results in a clogged drain or dirty-looking bathroom.
Long story short, keep cleaning after yourself as you go. You don’t want to have to stick your hands down the drain to remove a clump of hair. Chances are, you’ll throw up during the process.
Sentimental Value
We all start to grow attached to certain items in our wardrobe. Either because they have been with us for ages, or they happen to be of great quality. So, what do you do when those pieces no longer fit you perfectly? Sell, donate or keep?
All three options are viable but when it comes to our trusty bras, most of us choose to save them for a rainy day. Even though they no longer fit and have lost their shine, we still believe that they have worth to us.
Don’t Judge!
As gross as it sounds and feels to shave your toes, the alternative of leaving your toe hairs to grow is way worse. In fact, if our toe hair was visible, it would probably deter us from wanting to wear sandals or open-toed shoes.
And why should our pretty summer shoes suffer because we’re embarrassed by our hairy toes? Rather buck up and carefully shave those bad boys off. Who’s with us?
Being Curious With Q-Tips
For some reason, we can experience this whole psychological shift when using Q-Tips. We start to believe that we’re some doctor who gives the medical green light to inspect our eardrums. There are a few issues with this pretense.
Besides the obvious fact that we’re not actually professionals, if you don’t use that Q-Tip correctly, you’ll end up doing some damage. For example, you can achieve the opposite effect by pushing the wax further into your ear.
Quick Fix
We love a quick beauty hack. Something that’s cost-effective, timely, and offers an efficient result. From using concealer to hide our eye rings, to applying serum onto our dry-looking hair. But, what happens when beauty care and personal hygiene overlap?
For example, what happens if you have no time to shower but still want to smell good? Well, obviously you use your beauty products to do the trick. Warning — the perfume hack has a time limit. Shower as soon as you can!
No Shower, No Problem
What to do when you don’t have the time or effort to shower seems to be a hot topic on this list. So, besides our recent suggestion of aggressively spraying perfume or deodorant, we have a more effective solution.
Using a damp towel with soap to clean your armpits, intimate area, and feet is the next best thing after having a proper shower. So, it’s worth keeping a load of clean face cloths in your bathroom just in case.
What to Wear Today?
Yes, self-care is important and we are fierce advocates but with that being said, life happens and it can get in the way of our rituals. If you happen to be behind on your shaving habits, don’t stress because that’s where clothing comes into play.
If you really want to wear a certain dress or skirt but your legs are not in their most maintained state, just grab a pair of nylon tights from your cupboard and you’re all sorted!
Risky Business
Believe it or not, makeup is a nondurable consumer good. This means that the product should be used within a short period of time. And if you decide to keep this good for longer than recommended, it becomes a safety hazard.
Basically, over time bacteria will start to mount up and this can cause your skin to badly breakout or experience infections. If you know better, then there’s no point in continuing this gross habit. Rather buy less expensive makeup and switch it out more regularly.
Picking and Pulling
We know this next habit is particularly strange but our job is to talk about these gross habits. Have you ever found yourself totally fascinated over discovering a random long hair on your body? In other words, finding that outlier that just stands out from the rest.
This big guy can be found anywhere on our body from our legs and toes to our chin or even eyebrows. And while we know the ill fate of it, we do tend to weirdly admire the hair before extracting it.
Let’s Recycle
Obviously disposable razors are non-durable while reusable razors are meant to last you ages. With the latter investment, the razor handle has a detachable blade so that you can refill when needed — though many admit to not doing this.
We have some advice for all you non-disposable razor-users. If you want to keep reusing them, then simply clean the razor by placing the head in a bowl of Johnson’s baby oil. The oil soaks up the water and as a result, the blade won’t rust.
Been There, Done That!
Whether it’s Marmite, peanut butter, or Nutella, sometimes we all get a craving for a good spread. Though, when we have these sudden urges, we tend to be gross about it. Who needs to it on a piece of bread or cracker when all we actually want is the spread?
Yes, we have all shamefully eaten our favorite spread from the jar with a teaspoon. Oftentimes, this habit comes late at night or after being inebriated. We can’t say we’re proud of this habit but we’re going, to be honest, and own it.
Sharing Is Caring
Okay, no! We do not condone sharing toothbrushes with anyone. Aside from the fact that it’s absolutely gross, it’s also a lot riskier than just swapping spit with someone. Did you know you could be sharing blood, too?
Basically, brushing too abruptly can lead to bleedy gums and if you’re sharing your toothbrush, you’re potentially exposing yourself or your friend to bloodstream diseases. Definitely not worth it!
Exceptions to the Rule
We have the five-second rule in place for a reason. And that reason consists of beloved chocolates and cheese. We know it’s a random combo but who doesn’t like a little rich and creamy treat?
Even when you accidentally drop your favorite snack on the floor, you compromise your safety for that delicious bite. In this case, it’s probably better to just be ignorant about the kind of bacteria you’re coming into contact with.
Best for Last
We all know why we shouldn’t bite our nails. It looks gross, it tastes just as bad and it even damages your gums and cuticles. Yet, with all that rather frightening information in mind, we continue on.
We know it’s very hard to overcome a bad habit but with a bit of desire, perseverance, and hard work, anything can be accomplished. So, buy yourself a bottle of no-bite nail polish and squeeze your stress ball because you’ve got this!
Straight Up
Why is cheese the exception to the rules? Whether it be eating your mature cheddar after dropping it on the floor, or enjoying it straight from the packet — when it comes to our cheesy cravings, we somehow are helpless.
Also, have you ever eaten grated cheese out of the packet as if you were eating potato chips? Yes, we’ve been there as well. No, we can’t explain it using logic. We blame the state of being ‘hangry.’
Don’t Blush Now
Like every other product on the shelf, your makeup requires a good spring clean from time to time. In fact, according to experts, we should be washing our makeup brushes every day. Since that’s realistically not going to happen, it should at least be done weekly.
Many of you are probably blushing with embarrassment right now (get it?), because you’re realizing how far behind you are on this chore. Listen, ladies — it’s never too late to fix a bad habit. Try starting now!
Partying it Up
We all have those crazy nights where we get to bed far too late to care about washing our faces. We can excuse this if it happens infrequently. However, we can’t condone not cleaning your face for a whole weekend. That is just troublesome.
Your skin will activate its revenge plan by breaking out in zits. That’s sadly what happens when you let bacteria build up and clog your pores. Remember girls, be nice to your skin and you’ll glow — reject it and you’ll pay!
Popping Bubbles
Chewing gum is undoubtedly a bad habit. However, there are plenty of worse ones such as drinking in excess or being glued to your phone. While it would be safer to condemn the act of gum chewing, we offer a realistic solution.
Practice this habit in moderation. Allow yourself a piece of gum as a reward for doing a small task. Otherwise, if you need to fidget to distract yourself from boredom, nerves, or stress, simply drink water. Now, that’s a healthy habit!
Pajama Party Continued
With the everlasting struggle of the pandemic, working from home has become the new norm. With this lifestyle change, so too have people’s wardrobes for obvious reasons. A funny common occurrence for online meetings today is to get half-dressed.
Meaning that you’ve got your business look on top for your bosses to see and then your old granny PJ bottoms below the surface. While we’re totally on board with this dress style, we do think it’s best to change your pajamas every second day or so.
Priority Panties
Okay, this next one is truthfully pretty nasty. But, we want to play devil’s advocate again. When it comes to choosing your underwear, that’s a very private matter. Similar to writing in a diary, it’s not for everyone to see.
With that being said, being hygienic is important. We don’t mind old and stained undies but we have to draw the line at dirty ones. And yes in case you’re wondering, we’re now the official panty police.
Free the Pits
We’re all for freeing yourself of having to constantly shave. It’s a hassle and it also really sucks when you cut yourself with the blade. So, we’re happy to delay the armpit-shaving process but that doesn’t mean to say we’re going to be proud of each growing hair.
We come in peace when we say there are cooler things to admire on our bodies. For example, have you ever analyzed your belly button? It’s such an interesting feature.
Scratch and Sniff
Humans are tactile beings. In order to better understand our surroundings, we like to smell and feel things. So, the same rule is applied when it comes to our bodies. After all, there’s nothing like a good scratch.
Whether it be picking your nose for treasures or scratching your head for inspection. Though, we wouldn’t go as far as to smell that discovery. Those of you who do, we’re sorry to say but that’s gross!
Digging for Gold
It’s easy for our pores to get clogged up. That’s why it’s important for us to take daily care of our skin. However, we all get lazy from time to time, and then the inevitable ends up happening – zits!
And while we all love to hate them, we also all love to play with them. Perhaps this weird satisfaction is similar to our younger self who enjoyed dissecting and examining everything. We could be totally wrong but we humans really are curious beings.
An Unwanted Visitor
This unwanted visitor is the direct consequence of not cleaning up your hair after your daily showers. While we mentioned it earlier, actually seeing this clogged drain might provide you with the shock factor needed to ensure you never get to this point again.
Let’s be real, nobody wants to be the person who has to remove all that old and gross hair from the drain. So, let’s just clean up as we go? We know that we sound like parents here but hey, someone’s gotta set the record straight.
Clean That Up
Dirt-picking out of one’s nails is just like nose-picking, it’s an extremely gross habit that we’ve all done. Some overtly do these unattractive actions while others wait until they’re alone to attend to their ‘business.’
Let’s make 2022 the year that we stop this bad habit. And if it does give you satisfaction then rather invest in a cheap nail cleaning tool that gets the job done better and more efficiently.
Keeping Warm
During the winter months, we can all be a bit lax on our grooming routines. While many men and women prefer to shave, wax or laser their legs for sports or personal preferences, we can become too cold to care.
While having prickly legs is not desirable, there are some weird perks. For example, the leg hair adds an extra layer of warmth and sometimes it’s enjoyable to stroke your newly fuzzy situation. What are your thoughts on this one?
Gunk Is Gross
Pore strips… We’re so on the fence with this adhesive. On the one hand, the strips aren’t very dangerous and can’t cause more damage but on the other hand, sensitive skin can react badly. Our gut is leaning towards saying no to this ‘zit zapper.’
Just look at the photo on the right – gross, right? And the photo on the left isn’t much better. We think it’s best to clean your face the old-fashioned way or to rather seek a professional beauty treatment.
