Clint Eastwood, an iconic actor, and director has excellent taste. While some celebs’ homes (we’re looking at you, Nicholas Cage) are over the top, tacky, or just plain weird, Clint’s interiors are undeniably elegant. The actor from A Fist Full of Dollars listed his Pebble Beach estate for a cool $9.75 million. The property was purchased by Eastwood in 1994 for a much lower sum of $3.925 million. Known As Hacienda Este Madera
The Hacienda Este Madera in Pebble Beach belongs to Clint Eastwood. For those of you who don’t speak Spanish, that roughly translates to “East Wood Estate.”
Nevertheless, the Hang ‘Em High actor listed his beachfront home with prestigious real estate firm Sotheby’s. According to the listing, Eastwood’s house is situated on 4.7 acres in a secluded gated neighborhood near Pebble Beach. Anything less from the Dirty Harry actor would be unthinkable. He is, after all, a Hollywood legend.
The Work Of Clarence Tantau
A nearly 7,000 square-foot farmhouse-style mansion serves as Clint Eastwood’s home in Pebble Beach. Clarence Tantau, a well-known architect, actually created the house in the 1920s. Many lovely homes in the areas of Oakland, Berkeley, and Santa Cruz are the work of this architect, who primarily practiced in the San Francisco Bay area.
Absolutely gorgeous panoramic views can be seen from Stillwater Cove to Point Lobos beach from Hacienda Este Madera. The home’s strong and durable adobe walls, hand-forged ironwork, and gorgeous Spanish doors are all examples of Tantau’s vision.
The Perfect Place To Live In
In what is referred to as the “Californian Riviera,” is where Hacienda Este Madera is situated. It makes sense that this area, which stretches from Santa Barbara to San Diego, would be highly desired given its reputation for having a perfect climate all year.
When he was called up for the Korean War, Eastwood admitted that he visited Carmel. He said, “The air was clean and brisk, the sand white and beautiful, the people very hospitable. I pondered, I’d love to come and live here if I ever figure out how to make a living.”
Spanish Revivalist
Terracotta roof tiles and hand-forged ironwork are among the colonial Spanish-inspired accents in Eastwood’s 1920s mansion’s interior design. Due to its homage to the interior design and architecture of the Spanish Empire in North America, this style is also referred to as Spanish revivalist.
Due to the Spanish Empire’s extensive influence throughout the Americas, this style is more about an overall mood than it is about specific characteristics. This property has red tiles, stucco walls, fireplaces, and alcoves, all of which are typical of Spanish revival architecture.
Cobbled Courtyard
The open-air cobbled courtyard serves as the focal point of the Spanish revival home of the Million Dollar Baby director. Visitors can enter the courtyard through the main entrance and proceed through to the hidden, private courtyard. The central fountain is surrounded by canopied oak trees in the charming courtyard of cobblestones and wood details that have patina.
Colonial Spanish homes also have courtyards, which frequently serve as hallways for accessing particular rooms. Each of the six bedrooms in this house is accessed from the courtyard. How adorable!
Tehàma Golf Course
Mr. Eastwood established his own exclusive golf club, Tehàma, in 1999. He also owns several properties in this region. The club has a cap of 300 members and is only accessible by invitation. Tehàma has lots available for new home construction in addition to the golfing amenities.
Tehàma is a Native American word that means “abundance of nature,” which perfectly captures the region’s lush greenery. “I started caddying at 13 and knew I could carry clubs, but I never thought I’d swing one,” Eastwood said to Architectural Digest.
Wood Beams And High Ceilings
The Pebble Beach home of Clint Eastwood features high ceilings and wooden beams, which are typical of Spanish revival architecture. As seen in this picture, these houses typically have arched doorways and flat roofs.
Spanish colonial homes frequently have a warm, welcoming, and relaxed atmosphere because of the wooden beams and frequently unplastered walls. The wooden beams along the ceilings not only look lovely but also serve as essential structural support. Eastwood said of his possessions, “I only buy something I really love.”
Access To Superb Ocean Views
Of course, a substantial amount of Eastwood’s Pebble Beach property can be enjoyed outside due to the courtyard’s central location. Hacienda Este Madera features a stone terrace, a sizable lawn, and a garden in addition to the courtyard made of cobblestones. Of course, you can gaze out at the breathtaking ocean while relaxing on the terrace and soaking up some sun.
With a two-car garage right next to the mansion and a separate four-car garage in another area of the property, Clint also has carpark covered.
Moorish Décor
The interior of Clint Eastwood’s Pebble Beach home is decorated in a largely Moorish revival style, despite the fact that Spanish revival is the home’s primary architectural style. The Islamic countries of the west, such as Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya, as well as Muslim-ruled Spain and Portugal, are influenced by Moorish architecture.
The moorish architecture features intricate wood carvings, horseshoe arches, and detailed tilework. These features are brought together in Eastwood’s house with modern accents like glass chandeliers, creating a distinctively stylish result. Glass chandeliers and tiled floors can be found in several of the Hacienda Este Madera’s rooms.
What It Looks Like Outside
The cobblestone courtyard naturally has a number of features of its own given that it forms a central part of the house. First, the courtyard’s center features a colorfully tiled fountain that gurgles while adding to the tranquil and picturesque atmosphere. In addition, the home has an outdoor fireplace for those chilly California evenings or to create a calming, cozy atmosphere.
The courtyard of the Eastwood property is quiet and private, with oak trees offering cover and protection from the outside world.
Get Together
We can see additional examples of Spanish and Moorish revival designs in Clint Eastwood’s Hacienda Este Madera’s dining room. The breathtaking and stylish room has high wooden ceilings, which immediately give the impression that it is larger. Naturally, the actual dining table is lengthy, with room for what the property listing refers to as “iconic dinner parties for artists, authors, dignitaries, and musicians from around the world.”
In addition, the dining room features terracotta tiled floors and a corner fireplace designed in the kiva style.
Floors And Kitchen Center Are Exquisite
The Eastwoods’ impressive décor continues into the kitchen, which also boasts gorgeous beamed ceilings. As we can see in this picture, there are skylights among the wooden beams that fill each room with bright sunshine. Additionally, the kitchen has a center island topped with grey-white marble from Carrara in Tuscany, Italy. Only the best, right?
Instead of terracotta tiles, the floor in this room is made of hardwood. The room’s cheerful blue curtains match the backsplash’s blue and white check pattern.
Amazing Interiors
Clint Eastwood’s Pebble Beach home is stunning and cohesive throughout, which is something to be commended for, so props to whoever decorated it. This room features a combination of striking art, interior decoration in gray tones, and animal imagery. It doesn’t appear to be the home of a man in his 90s; rather, it looks cool and interesting.
Despite this, it’s possible that we pass too much judgment on Mr. Eastwood. After all, he is a famous actor in Hollywood.
Loggia
Another word from the world of architecture for you: loggia. Have you heard of it? A covered exterior corridor known as a loggia is typically supported by columns and arches. Though it was originally used in Italian architecture, Clint Eastwood’s Pebble Beach residence has it.
The six bedrooms in the American Sniper director’s house are all accessed from a covered loggia that wraps around the courtyard. There is no access to the rooms from the inside of the house due to the wonderful loggia.
Master’s Bedroom
Alcoves are common in homes decorated in the Moorish and Spanish revival styles, and Clint Eastwood’s alcove was specifically constructed into the walls. The property feels cozier and appears more established overall thanks to these alcoves. It’s impressive that the master bedroom at Hacienda Este Madera has two vanities and separate dressing areas.
The room has a bathtub for a soothing soak as well as its own fireplace. This bedroom, in contrast to many others belonging to the wealthy and famous, feels especially cozy and welcoming.
Two Sinks
Clint, or perhaps architect Clarence Tantau, deserves credit for being rather considerate when it came to who would be residing in this home. The property has “his and hers” sinks in addition to double vanities and separate dressing rooms. There are plenty of mirrors available, so you won’t have to wait for your partner to finish brushing their teeth.
Additionally, there is a spa bathtub and eye-catching tiles in this beautiful bathroom. C’est la vie!
Somewhere To Relax
Eastwood’s Pebble Beach home features an outdoor patio area in addition to the main courtyard made of cobblestones. Spanish art is used to decorate this area of the house, which has its own fireplace.
Clint Eastwood was born in San Francisco in 1930 and has spent the majority of his life there. He grew up in Piedmont and Sacramento and went to Piedmont High School and Oakland Technical High School, respectively. He didn’t do well academically at either institution.
Very Detailed Carved Doors
The doors at Hacienda Este Madera feature intricate Moorish carvings. The home feels luxurious thanks to this detailing without being stuffy or overly opulent. This feature adds yet another charming element to the home’s design thanks to the warm-toned wood and pretty patterns.
Alcoves Everywhere
Some of the alcoves in Clint Eastwood’s Pebble Beach mansion can be seen in this picture. They provide additional storage in addition to giving the room some depth and interest.
It makes sense that this renowned actor and director would want a cozy home that appears to be inhabited after a long career in television and movies. We won’t mind if Eastwood spends a little time relaxing on a comfy couch because he has won an incredible 13 Academy Awards over the years.
He Put Up A Gate
It makes complete sense that the Hollywood icon had a gated entrance giving the exclusive, gated feel of the community he was residing in during those great years at Hacienda Este Madera.
Not to mention that he is among the most recognizable actors of all time, so security and monitoring are priorities in almost every residence he owns. There is no doubt about that now.
Spacious And Pretty Driveway
It makes total sense for someone like Clint Eastwood to have a protracted, winding driveway that offers a picturesque route from the front of his estate to the actual structure.
And given that Eastwood owns a large collection of vehicles, it stands to reason that he should have a driveway that extends for quite a distance so that he won’t have to keep them all in his garage whenever he wants to go for a drive. Why would you do that if the gate is already closed?
Everything Is Accessible
The fact that every area of Clint Eastwood’s former home is easily accessible is one of its best features. Despite being fairly large, as one might expect, the home’s open layout and meticulous design give the impression that one can move easily from one room to another.
As can be seen, it is not at all difficult to navigate one’s way from the terrace to the living room or from the bedroom to the office.
Corinthians 5:8
Clint Eastwood has a complex and difficult relationship with religion and has never publicly adhered to any one faith, in case you didn’t already know that.
Having said that, he has evolved spiritually over the years, and this is evident in the architecture of his Pebble Beach home and the setting in which it is located. His spiritual side is also depicted in this lovely statue, which includes a verse from Corinthians 5:8 at the bottom.
Letting The Creativity Flow
You need to have that place where you can go and let your artistic juices flow when you’re an actor, director, and producer as prolific as Clint Eastwood. He was fortunate to have many such spaces at Hacienda Este Madera.
Consider this study, which was generally quite straightforward. That refers to the fact that it wasn’t overly cluttered. He needed nothing more than a desk, a typewriter, and lots of room to think and create his next screenplay.
Dreams Are Made Here
Clint Eastwood is an example of someone who has lived a long and successful life and needs a lot of sleep. To give yourself the best chance possible, experts advise getting at least eight hours of sleep each night, and it appears that this Hollywood star has the ideal sleeping space to achieve this.
As you’ll see, Clint won’t accept a bed that is only moderately comfortable. He demands extreme comfort and won’t settle for anything less.
A Cozy Area
As was previously mentioned, Eastwood had a good number of fireplaces in Hacienda Este Madera. The weather in this region of the world is generally quite wonderful all year long. This does not preclude, however, that it occasionally gets a little chilly.
Nothing made Clint happier than to relax in front of a warm fire, enjoy a drink with his loved ones, listen to music, or just read a book.
Enjoying The Ocean View
Clint Eastwood still enjoys nothing more than heading out to the Pacific Coast at his older age. Being so close to the beach at Hacienda Este Madera made it incredibly simple for him to enjoy his love of all kinds of water sports.
When he was a resident of this region of the world, Clint was frequently spotted making the short trip down to the beach, getting on a surfboard, or just relaxing on the fine, white sands.
Taking Every Detail Into Consideration
The amount of consideration and detail that went into Clint Eastwood’s stunning home is simply astounding, that much is certain. On the surface, it is simple to miss this and consider Hacienda Este Madera to be beautiful in all of its simplicity.
Running For Mayor
Longtime Pebble Beach property owner Clint Eastwood made the decision to run for mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea in the 1980s. When the city council rejected his request for planning permission to renovate a building, the director of Mystic River made the decision to run. After successfully suing the city, he decided to run for mayor the following year.
Talking about it, Eastwood mentioned, “We couldn’t get anyone else to do it […] Being a very determined person, I decided to win.” He did.
Mrs. Eastwood And Company
The stunning Spanish-style Pebble Beach property owned by Clint Eastwood has already enjoyed some time in the spotlight. The home was highlighted in the reality series Mrs. Eastwood and Company in 2012, which aired ten episodes. The six-person acapella group and Eastwood’s then-wife Dina, daughters Francesca and Morgan, were all characters in the show. You read that correctly; that is true.
Along with the Eastwoods, the acapella group Overtone also occupied Hacienda Este Madera. It should come as no surprise that Clint was not pleased.
His Family
The Eastwood family, two daughters, and a six-piece acapella group all resided at the Pebble Beach estate. But the Eastwood family is not entirely represented by this (especially the acapella group, who are not related at all). The Changeling director has been married twice throughout his life to Maggie Johnson and Dina Ruiz. Sondra Locke and Frances Fisher are the names of two other long-term partners he has had.
The well-known actor has eight kids in total, including Scott, Francesca, Alison, Kyle, Morgan, Kathryn, Laurie, and Kimber, though it wasn’t officially announced until recently.
His Properties
Along with the Pebble Beach property, Clint Eastwood also owns a Burbank apartment, a 15,949 square foot Carmel-by-the-Sea compound, and a 1,067.5 acre Rising River Ranch in Burney, and a Bel-Air house (including the property next door). The Gran Torino director also owns a 5,700 square-foot home in Idaho and a 1.13-acre oceanfront estate in Hawaii in addition to his real estate in California.
A hacienda-style mansion measuring 16,000 square feet and built in the hacienda style was also constructed by Eastwood on the hilltop of his private golf club.
Community In Tehama
On the grounds of the Tehama Golf Club, Clint Eastwood didn’t just construct residences for himself. Instead, he built a unique neighborhood with plenty of lands available to build dream homes. This upscale neighborhood is located on the California Central Coast in the hills above Carmel-by-the-Sea.
He said while talking about the project, “I thought, someday people are going to want some privacy and they’ll get tired of living crammed in next to each other. And that’s really it.”
It Is Self-Sustaining
The Tehàma project is not only a private community but also ecologically sound, eco-friendly, and self-sufficient. Since 85% of the area is undeveloped due to the homes’ to-land ratio, the local wildlife can continue to thrive there. Currently, wild deer, fox, turkey, and quail can be found in Monterey Bay’s rolling hills.
In the past, Eastwood bought Mission Ranch, an animal sanctuary, to protect the area from development. Mr. Eastwood has undoubtedly left his mark on California, that much is certain.
Off The Market
Clint Eastwood’s ownership of Hacienda Este Madera officially ended on August 13, 2018, when it was finally purchased. Despite having a higher initial estimate, the house sold for a respectable $6,975,000. It is unknown who the current owners of this lovely home are; they prefer to maintain their privacy.
There is no doubting, however, that this is and will always be a unique estate that is situated in one of the most breathtaking regions of the world. Additionally, it will always be known as the residence of one of Hollywood’s finest.
